After the student has completed the first 6 hours of class either at Arrive Alive of Texas Driving Academy or Online, they will receive the DE-964 certificate. If class is taken online, the online course provider will issue this certificate by mail. This certificate will indicate that they are enrolled in a state approved driver education course. If student is taking class at Arrive Alive of Texas Driving Academy, they will take the written permit test at the driving school. They will take the DE-964 certificate to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) along with other legal documents (i.e. birth certificate, social security, verification of enrollment form, etc.) to obtain a learner's permit. This permit will allow them to drive with a licensed driver, age 21 or older, who is in the car with them.
